Gusto in Abbazia
We are talking about Venice, particularly about St. Gregory’s Abbey next to the Basilica of Saint Mary of Health. The Abbey is located at the entrance of Canal Grande in a lovely position. Surely it could be seen as one of the most amazing view over Venice.
Needless to say, it was the favorite location for artists, especially for the painter of Canaletto. It’s in the loggia ,at the upper floor ,where he painted one of his most beautiful paintings, focused on the Basilica of Saint Mary of Health.
We reach this particular location arriving at Saint Mary of Health, or better, strolling through a still district of Venice, where visitors can find the best crafts-and antique shops of the city. When entering the cloister , the smell of stones , of old wood, and the salty air, mixed together. Philippe Daverio – art critic – says, that people love these fragrances not only for their natural origin, but also for the old tales that these evoke It is clearly the sensation that can be felt when entering a place full of history , like this.
We reach, on the right side, “Gusto in Abbazia”; this space has been transformed in an exclusive location by MTN-group. Here-hence people can enjoy an unique, amazing panorama of “La Serenissima”.
Who comes in this temporary restaurant the first time, comes the second, because the dimension that could be experienced here is very particular. It is made by joining together the art of food and the artistic performances organized by Fondaco – an important cultural promotion studio sited in Venice.
Martino, Nicola and Tommaso, are happy of this connection between culinary art and art languages: from sculpture to painting, from poetry to artistic installation. It is a fact that their culinary creations could be better tasted when framed by all these examples of art. That’s the kingdom of fish dishes, but also mainland dishes find a fitting place in the menu. Customers can find here an unique location and a superb kitchen. According to them, the food is seen here as multi-cultural and sensorial experience.
Every time we take leave of Martino, Nicola and Tommaso, we use the word “a -rivederci” (see you soon), looking forward to come here again. This temporary restaurant is worth a visit, or two, three…
